Beginner Drop-In

7:30 - 8:00 pm

Cost: FREE with purchase of dance admission ($5, or $3 with a benefit card).

Prerequisites: None. This lesson is for BRAND NEW dancers. No partner or dance experience needed!

Get comfortable with the basics of swing dancing. This class will get you on the dance floor on your first night! Each week we teach different swing dance basics: 6-count Lindy hop and 8-count Lindy hop. Most people take this beginner class a few times to get comfortable with the basic rhythms before joining our Level 1 Series classes.

Is it your first time? Check out what to expect.

Level 1 - Currently on Hiatus

7:00 - 8:15 pm

Prerequisites: Having taken a few weeks of the beginner drop in classes and feel comfortable with triple steps and rock steps.

Each month is a different topic – check here for the current topic.

Our Level 1 classes build off the skills you learned in our beginner lessons. You’ll expand your repertoire and become comfortable with many types of swing dancing movements. There are roughly 4 months of material in these classes. Once you’ve taken the 4 months once or twice and are feeling comfortable with the material, it’s time for Level 2!

Private Lessons

Many of our instructors also offer private lessons. Generally private lessons last about an hour and are between one instructor and one student. They can also be a pair of instructors, a pair of students, or both. See our instructors page for who offers private lessons and their rates.

To schedule a private lesson, you can speak with a teacher at a Wednesday dance, ask the door worker, or send an email to info@knoxswingdance.org. If you don't know who would be best to take a private from, pick the dancer with the style you like or talk to any of our teachers about what you'd like to work on and they'll point you in the right direction.
